What is Playback Theatre?
Derbyshire Playback Theatre Company is one of hundreds of Playback theatre companies throughout the world dedicated to serving their community through the ancient and transformative power of storytelling.
In diverse settings, including schools, hospitals and prisons to conferences, training events and celebrations, audiences are invited to tell moments and stories from their lives which are then literally ‘played back’ by the actors using improvisational techniques, cloth, music and song.
Storytelling through Playback Theatre can both engage and delight an audience whilst also offering them the opportunity to see and learn from each other’s stories. Common themes and issues often emerge in performance and it is this ‘red thread’ linking stories and moments which can enable fresh insight and awareness between seemingly disparate audience members.
